How did medicine overlook the discovery of a cure for boredom?! Life takes a sudden turn, and the established story of love is turned upside down, without preamble. Threads intertwine, and Tarek falls into the trap of the second story.
The protagonist of the novel is Tarek Al-Kilani, a successful businessman with a stable family, who discovers on his fiftieth birthday that he is afflicted with a deadly boredom. His life seems to be heading towards a strange madness. He cannot stop thinking about Perryhan, 25 years old, despite his love for his wife Faiza, 47 years old. Thus begins a long journey through all aspects of his life to discover the truth about love, about people and their emotions, and even about himself.
Through a clever trick called "The Game of Days" introduced in the novel, Tarek undergoes what is referred to as "Boredom Therapy Sessions." We see Tarek and all the characters at different stages of life, each time with a new story. Time, in this case, is like the sun, casting different shades and colors on life as it moves. We move between autumn, spring, and summer in hopes of finding a solution to the eternal dilemma.
Does Tarek offer his mind as a sacrifice to his heart? Does love change if circumstances change? Does fear take a greater place, or does Tarek triumph over the call of his secure present?
Between love, soul, and mind, we live in the eternal struggle that shapes our lives and events, which is vividly portrayed within the pages of this novel.
